The Richmond Photo Club was founded in 1980. Our club comprises a wide variety of beginners, intermediate and advanced photographers who shoot in colour prints and slides, black and white photography and digital format.  Our members have an extensive range of interests and demonstrate their talents in our club evaluations. In this way, you are encouraged to apply the techniques shown by more experienced users as you develop your own unique style.

We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 P.M. in the Painting Studio, second floor of the Richmond Community Centre at the corner of Granville Avenue and Minoru in Richmond, BC. We break for the summer, and do not meet during July and August.  (See meeting schedule).

Why you should join a Camera Club

If you already belong to one you’ll know why. But for those photographers who haven’t enjoyed the club experience, a club is, in addition to the social aspect, an information exchange. You will learn how, when and where to take pictures. You will also find out about the equipment you may need, or about techniques to improve your results, thus ensuring the pictures you take will be treasured memories.

Club Activities

Evaluations – the club hosts about ten evaluations during the year, within the club. We bring in experienced CAPA Certified judges who are members of other CAPA clubs in the lower mainland to offer constructive comments on the exhibitor’s photography, as well as scoring your work based on the category you are in. The club also competes in outside events such as the North Shore Challenge, the Delta Print Challenge and the CAPA Pacific zone Print Challenge.

Exhibitions – We present a large showing of our members work annually in the Richmond Lansdowne Centre. This great event presents a chance to work with fellow members in the preparation of the exhibition as well as to interact with the community.

We also exhibit our member’s photography in the Atrium of the Richmond Arts Centre annually. This is an excellent opportunity to show our skills to the Arts community as well as the hundreds of visitors to the Arts centre.

Field Trips – We arrange these events within our club to local areas of interest. Members also take part in monthly CAPA sponsored trips organized by the CAPA Pacific Zone.

Much, much more – on meeting nights as well as other evaluations, we offer talented and informative guest speakers, critiques and workshops.

The Richmond Photo Club is a member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art.

The Camera Club Experience

We have a great cross section of members ranging from professional photographers to casual users that help you by offering their expertise and experience. You will discuss various techniques, practice your photography and perhaps teach others what you already know from your own personal experience. We give you the opportunity to compare your work with other photographers and learn from the techniques and subjects that our members have used. We all have one common purpose, to enjoy photography.

You are welcome to drop in and see for yourself what goes on at our meetings. We always welcome visitors and hope to see you soon.
